Borland Delphi 5 BDE, developed by Inprise Corporation (formerly Borland), is the Borland Database Engine bundled with Delphi 5. It provides a unified, 32-bit data access layer for Windows applications written in Delphi, offering native support for Paradox and dBASE tables and connectivity to InterBase and other SQL databases through SQL Links and ODBC. Integrated with Delphi’s Visual Component Library, the BDE enables rapid development of data-aware desktop and client/server applications, with features such as Local SQL for file-based databases, transaction control, master–detail datasets, cached updates, and support for stored procedures and BLOB fields where supported by the backend.
The package includes the BDE Administrator for defining database aliases, configuring drivers, and tuning connection parameters (stored in IDAPI.CFG) to streamline deployment and maintenance. Although later technologies like ADO and dbExpress superseded it for new projects, Delphi 5 BDE remains significant for maintaining and running legacy applications built on the Borland data access stack.
Borland Delphi 5 BDE is developed by Inprise Corporation. The most popular version of this product among our users is unknown. The name of the program executable file is bdeadmin.exe.
